Saphiret Heart Pendant

Antique pendant necklace with a fantastic Czech glass sapphire placed in the center and decorated with rhinestones around it. The heart-shaped cabochon Saphiret does not simply reflect light, but has a bewitching shine that makes it seem as if it is emitting its own light. The pale blue surface changes its position depending on the viewing angle, and the way the chocolate-tinged purple shines in the depths is a mysterious charm that can only be seen on Saphiret.

Saphiret is a Bohemian glass made in the Gabronz region of Czechoslovakia in the mid-19th century, and is said to have been made by mixing molten gold with sapphire-colored glass. The details of the manufacturing method are unknown and it cannot be made today, making it a collector’s item.

Due to the soaring price of gold, production ceased around the beginning of the 20th century, so jewelry using saphiret glass is an antique from the Victorian, Edwardian, and Arts and Crafts eras. It is rarely seen after Art Deco. It seems that the reason why there are variations in color, with some having a strong blue color and others having a strong brick color, is due to the difference in the composition of the gold.
