Coro
= Vintage Costume Jewelry Brand Story =
The Coro brand name is a combination of the two founders, “Co” from Emanuel Cohen and “Ro” from Gerald Rosenberg.
Their partnership began in 1901, and the company was founded as Coro, Inc. in 1943.
The company’s accessory production was in Rhode Island, USA until 1979, and then the production base was moved to Canada, where the company continued until around 1998. (Some say that the period up to 1979 was the Coro era.)
Coro’s popularity skyrocketed due to the success of art director Adolph Katz, who joined the company in 1924. It quickly grew into America’s largest costume jewelry company.
Many designs have been registered under the name of Adolf Katz, including a clip called Duet, which has a mechanism that allows two brooches and fur clips to be combined into one. There were multiple designers who were the overall director and actually designed the project.
The manufacturer produced a wide range of products in terms of quality and design, from affordable to luxury lines, and although it had its own factory, it also collaborated with other manufacturers. Since many of its products were sold during its heyday, it is still a brand that is easy to collect, even though it has become vintage.
Corocraft, which was launched in 1937, and Vendome, which was launched in 1944, are the company’s luxury brand lines.
