Handmade Embroidery Vintage Brooch ~ Petit Point Rose

A rose flower and four buds surrounding it are made using three colors of pink to deep red embroidery thread, and leaves and stems are made using three colors of moss green. A one-of-a-kind handmade vintage brooch that conveys the presence of an elegant rose through its delicate color shading and fine embroidery.

This very detailed embroidery is a technique called petit point, which is a French word that means small (fine) point.” Since the eyes are very fine, the work is done by hand while looking through a magnifying glass.

Japanese Wikipedia says that it started in Austria in the 18th century, and there are some pieces of information that refer to it, but the English Encyclopedia Britannica says that it started in France in the 17th to early 18th century. It is said that it was widely used as embroidery for interior decorations such as pole screens and sofa covers.

The pedestal of the brooch with the petit point set is made of relatively light gold-tone metal and appears to be from a newer, modern era.

The embroidery and cloth are in good condition, but it has the appearance of age, so it seems to be a vintage handmade brooch made with antique petit point.

This one-of-a-kind brooch is characterized by the time it takes to embroidery, the warmth of handwork, and rich expression.
